Athol Christmas Bird Count 2025 – Preliminary Results

57 species and 6,485 individual birds were recorded in the 57th annual Athol Christmas Bird Count on December 20th 2025. More than 40 field counters took to the woods and fields of North Quabbin to participate in the count. The field teams were supplemented with a dozen feeder watchers. The severe cold weather of November froze most of the calm waters limiting the waterfowl numbers. The bright note for the rest of winter is the Evening Grosbeaks with a flock of 30 found in Phillipston and several flocks of Pine Siskins were observed by multiple observers. The numbers are still preliminary and a complete report will be submitted to the National Audubon Society when all the data is in. See below for the list of species and current counts at this time.
