An opportunity for homeschoolers provided at no charge by Athol Bird and Nature Club.
Aquatic biologist/science teacher Cathy Szal and educator Bonnie Benjamin will offer lab classes for homeschoolers ages 8-12 years old.
January 6,13 – Tracking: We will be exploring animal tracking. We will make track castings using silicone molds of animal tracks. We will learn about tracking patterns and the use of tracking cards. If conditions allow, we will go outside during the last half hour of class to do some tracking.
February 3,10 – Animal Skulls and Owl Pellets: We will take a careful look at a range of animal skulls and investigate what we can learn about the animal from its skull. The second half of the class will be working with sterilized owl pellets to better understand the food web. Information for both classes: We’re offering two sessions of the same class each month, please sign up for just one/month. We’ll have a snack break, so bring a snack if you’d like one. All equipment and materials will be supplied.
The classes are from 10:00-12:00 and will be held at the Millers River Environmental Center, 100 Main St., Athol, MA. There will be a limit of 10 students/class. An adult will need to accompany participating students. To register or for information, please contact Cathy Szal: catherineszal400@gmail.com
