An opportunity for homeschoolers provided at no charge by the Athol Bird and Nature Club.
Naturalist Ernie LeBlanc and educator Cathy Szal will offer a class for homeschoolers ages 8-12 years old.
Using our natural history collection, we will look at different species of birds and consider how their beaks and feet offer clues about what they eat and where they live. We’ll explore what adaptations make birds unique, looking at their skeletons, feathers, and overall body structure. Different types of feathers will be examined under microscopes to discover the unique characteristics helping birds survive and function.
The class will be held at the Millers River Environmental Center from 10:00-12:00. There will be a limit of 10 students/class. We’ll have a snack break, so bring a snack if you’d like one. All equipment and materials will be supplied. An adult will need to accompany participating students.
*We’ll add a second class on November 10. 2026 if interest is strong.
