All About Bees and How We Can Support Their Continued Existence

Aliza Fassler, a PhD candidate in the Environmental Conservation Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will discuss the different kinds of wild bees in Massachusetts, a little bit about her research, and a little bit about what we can do to support wild bees. Aliza grew up in Greenfield, Massachusetts with a love for forests. Her PhD research focuses on improving habitats for wild bees as part of sustainable logging practices in the Lower Midwest. She also serves as the co-chair of the UMass Bee Campus USA Committee and a Renaissance of the Earth Fellow. In these roles she is working on increasing pollinator habitats on campus and exploring our relationships with insects across time. She is passionate about sharing her love for wild bees and other insects!

Join Dan Jaffe Wilder, author of Native Plants for New England Gardens and Director of Applied Ecology at Norcross Wildlife Foundation to learn about the various options available to us, from whole lawn replacement to strategies for reducing inputs and increasing ecological value. From well-known plants to new introductions, we will discuss various options that fit the needs of any lawn space.
